Flood Watch issued September 21 at 11:27AM MDT until September 22 at 6:00AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast New Mexico, including the following areas, in east central New Mexico, Curry County, Guadalupe County and Quay County. In northeast New Mexico, Eastern San Miguel County, Far Northeast Highlands, Harding County and Union County. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Numerous fast-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to repeatedly develop over east central to northeastern New Mexico through this evening. Soils will already be saturated in many locations, and this will cause less absorption of rainfall into the ground which could lead to excessive runoff and possible flash flooding. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Flood Advisory issued September 21 at 2:57PM MDT until September 21 at 6:00PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM * WHAT...Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast New Mexico, including the following counties, in east central New Mexico, central Quay. In northeast New Mexico, southern Harding. * WHEN...Until 600 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 254 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to several thunderstorms moving northeast around 40 mph. This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding. Up to 2.5 inches of rain have fallen over parts of the area. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. Another round of thunderstorms with heavy rain may move into the area after 5 pm. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Tucumcari, Logan and Ute Lake State Park. - The heaviest rain as fallen along U.S. 54 between Tucumcari and Logan, as well as along State Road 209 south of Tucumcari. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create sudden and dangerous flows in arroyos and over low water crossings.
