Flood Watch issued September 21 at 2:51AM MDT until September 22 at 6:00AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible, especially on vulnerable wildfire burn scars. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northeast New Mexico, including the following areas, in north central New Mexico, East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains. In northeast New Mexico, Northeast Highlands. This includes the Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon wildfire burn scar. * WHEN...From noon MDT today through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Numerous fast-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to repeatedly develop over east central to northeastern New Mexico today and this evening. Soils will already be saturated in many locations, and this will cause less absorption of rainfall into the ground which could lead to excessive runoff and possible flash flooding. The Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon wildfire burn scar will be especially susceptible to flooding. - http://www.weather.gov/abq/EmergencyPrepFlood You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
