Heat Advisory issued June 17 at 3:20AM EDT until June 20 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT * WHAT...Heat index values up to 101 expected. * WHERE...Southern Franklin and Western Essex Counties. * WHEN...From noon Tuesday to 8 PM EDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heat impacts will mainly be felt below 2000 foot elevation. Above 2000 feet, heat indices in the upper 80s to lower 90s are expected. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours in poorly ventilated spaces. Those without air conditioning should consider the potential for lingering health impacts while indoors late in the day.
